If you’ve been meditating for a long time or are brand new to it, it’s important that you find ways to keep yourself motivated to meditate.  Some people say you should find one method and stick with it until you’ve mastered it.  However I vote for doing whatever it takes to stay committed and excited about it. And that means changing it up at times. So here are a few ways I’ve managed to mix up my mediation time:

Location– Ever try meditating outside immersed in the elements of Mother Nature? And what better way than to connect to the energy of the Earth than to sit and feel the very ground beneath you. However, you don’t have to trek into the depths of the wilderness for this, simply making a space on your patio or porch will suffice enough as well. The smell and feel of the air and breeze, and the rustling of the trees is another great sensory way to connect to the present moment.

Meditation Accessories– What’s cool about meditating on a continual basis is that the more one does it the easier and faster it becomes for one to take on the energy of meditation. Another cool way to get this same effect is to get some sort of meditation accessory that you enjoy or feel some sort of connection with and use only when you meditate. This could be an essential oil, a luxurious blanket or meditation mat, or a relaxing nature sounds app. Just be sure it’s something you will look forward to using. By doing this you are essentially pairing the experience of meditating with a scent, sound, or feeling. That way whenever you experience or come into contact with that oil or sound for instance, it will trigger that meditation energy within you.

Feel and Visualize – Often times when one decides they want something in their life or they want to do something in particular it’s because they’ve tapped into what it would feel like to have that very awesome and amazing thing already. Well, that’s exactly the energy I’ve tapped into when meditating to keep me going back to the mat. And it happens to be a natural stress reliever as well too which doesn’t hurt. Imaging what it is you wish to have in your life and feeling that you have it, like really have it already is just good for the soul. Now I’m sure for many that sounds easier said than done though, and I get that. But I’m not talking a million dollars here (although that wouldn’t hurt and if you can embody that energy then by all means go for it!). I’ll give you an example though – I remember when I was a newbie to all things spiritual, including meditation, and totally saw and felt the stresses of my chaotic outer world just continuing to be a complete mess. I wanted and to be honest, needed nothing more than to get away and to be on some secluded island with my feet half buried in the sand and the sound of the ocean breeze playing in the background. So when I hit my meditation mat – that’s exactly where I went in my mind. I imagined how relaxing and freeing it feels to lay on the beach leaving the day to day stressors behind. I could feel the stress and the energy in my body dissipate as I listened to the sound of ocean waves via my phone and imagined the sand between my toes and the smell of salt in the air. And let me tell you, I did everything I could to carve out time in my day to meditate at that time because nothing could compare to that feeling in my current reality. And I didn’t actually have to trek to the beach or figure out how I could scrounge up some cash to take a vacation. I simply went there in my own mind, in my meditation. The most beautiful thing about it all was that two weeks later, I happened to land myself a free vacation to Antigua I definitely couldn’t have afforded myself at the time. So wherever that thing or place is for you – playing with a puppy, laying on the beach or trekking the desert. Visualize and more importantly feel what it’s like to be there or have your desire when you’re meditating. I guarantee you will look forward to it! And who knows, you might just end up manifesting your meditation too!
